"Another great example of free press can be found in the Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College where I am a work-study intern. They have all kinds of art shows that reflect parts of American life and history that aren’t often mentioned in the regular media… Community art museums like the Euphrat Museum are very important to have because here artists can express themselves freely and sometimes reflect another side of life that isn’t often mentioned in newspapers or on commercial television. This is an important part of democracy — the freedom to show, see, and talk about all kinds of artwork, ideas, and events."

"Showing Up with Care" explores caregiving, healing and the power of expression. The artists draw from personal experience, advocate for caregiver rights and look at ways that art can be a vehicle for healing and transformation.
Artists include Norm Aragones, Chris Bunz, Annabel Clark, Brett Cook, Marion Coleman, Kate DeCiccio, Marisa Morán Jahn, Pantea Karimi, Kristin Lindseth-Rivera, Diwa Malaya, Mark Messenger, Jennifer Myhre, Adan Perez, George Rivera, Cynthia Siegel and Antoinette "Toni" Stroman.
"Showing Up with Care" is offered in conjunction with Silicon Valley Reads 2018, the annual community reading and conversation program, which is focused this year on the theme of caregiving. This year's reading program, entitled "No Matter What: Caring, Coping, Compassion," features the novel "Goodbye Vitamin," by Rachel Khong, and "My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward," a memoir by Mark Lukach.

Kindness as Resistance will explore kindness and hope as acts of resistance and positive counter-narratives. Artworks will include grace-filled portraits of diverse people and communities, installations about cultural healing traditions, explorations of faith and hope, and opportunities for connection and communication.

Justice for All? features works that look at our collective history and the unconscious bias that impacts our systems and lives. The artists face injustice and its consequences and call for empathy to guide our actions and institutions.

Justice for All? is offered in conjunction with Silicon Valley Reads 2017. The county-wide program features Adam Benforado's book "Unfair: The New Science of Criminal Injustice" and Shaka Senghor's "Writing My Wrongs" and encourages everyone in Santa Clara County to read the same book, at the same time, and talk about it.

ABOUT THE EUPHRAT MUSEUM OF ART
For over 30 years, the Euphrat has presented one-of-a-kind exhibitions, publications, and events reflecting the diverse heritage of our area. Our mission is to provide a venue and resource for visual ideas and communication that stimulate creativity and an interest in art among audiences of all ages. We provide for a spectrum of interactions with a large and diversified public, working on and off campus with specialists in all disciplines. The Museum has an outstanding Arts & Schools Program, primarily in Cupertino and Sunnyvale, at various school and community sites. Each year the Museum creates public art projects involving elementary and middle school students, De Anza student interns, and Euphrat artist/teachers.
